While The Stainton is a beloved local spot, some patrons note the absence of an extensive dining menu as a drawback, preferring more variety beyond traditional pub fare. Others mention the sometimes limited seating during peak hours, particularly on busy Friday nights, which can lead to long waits for a table. A few guests pointed out that while the karaoke nights are entertaining, they can occasionally drown out conversations, making it hard for those who prefer a quieter evening. Finally, the pub's popularity means it can get quite crowded, which some guests view as a negative during their visit.
Proper village pub that still knows what it is. The Stainton’s exactly what you want from a traditional wet-led local – good beer, friendly team, and a genuine sense of community. No gimmicks, no forced dining push – just a solid pint, a laugh, and locals who actually talk to each other. It’s got that old-school charm most places have lost, with a tidy bar area, decent entertainment nights, and the sort of welcome you can’t fake. Definitely one of the few remaining pubs that still feels like the heart of its village.
Old-school local with real character. The Stainton’s one of those pubs that gets the basics right – cold pint, warm welcome, and a crowd that feels like family even if you’re new. It’s proudly wet-led, no overcomplicated menu or corporate nonsense, just a place that does what a village pub should: bring people together. Always a good atmosphere, decent prices, and it’s clear the team care about keeping that traditional pub feel alive. Worth stopping in if you’re passing through – you’ll end up staying for a few.
Lovely afternoon tea to start the celebrations for my 60th Birthday. Staff were all very friendly and very attentive. Hope to go back for Sunday lunch soon. Thank you. Xx
Took my Dad for the carvery on father's Day, very spacious bar and lounge. We got lager shandys which went down really well and chose the pork dinner. Meat was lean and tasty and so was the rest of the meal... everything cooked to perfection, a home from home dinner... definitely will be back...loved it.
We had a wonderful afternoon and a lovely lunch. We booked in advance and the team went that extra mile to ensure we had a fantastic vegan Sunday lunch. Thank you!!
